Random thoughts on art, technology, stuff, and occasionally Real Estate: September 2010

A Fun, Free and Practical Resource for Every ActiveRain Member!.

Thank you. William Johnson!

As soon as I saw the PhotoFunia app, I just knew I had to try it on one of Mike Jones' stunning desert images.  I love PhotoFunia!

What can be fun and practical for real estate professionals to give as a gift to our clients? I learned of a marvelous resource at SMMCamp that I started to use over the weekend. Here is the very first effort that took all of about 3 minutes.

This free program can turn any photo into a pencil drawing or a variety of many other effects.

San Diego Lighthouse

The program is called Photofunia. Before you dismiss this as just another cool resource and forget about it, allow me to share with you a couple of wonderful ideas of how you might implement this tool into your real estate marketing efforts. Here is an idea you can use for clients who have pets. Take a photo of their pets and turn it into something suitable for framing.

What if you took photo of all the homes in your farm, turned them into drawings and mailed each one of your farm an 8x10 of their home compliments of you.  No obligation and no real cost to you except for some nice heavy flyer paper, a bit of ink and maybe a stamp.

What if you took it to the next level and actually dropped it off under the premise that you had someone do these for you and you wanted each homeowner in your farm to have it because it is suitable for framing.

 San Diego Lighthouse

No worries about bad house colors, homes or fences that need painting, yellowing grass, what have you. Any home in almost any condition turned into a drawing would look pretty good.

Another idea would be to use the pencil drawing to make up post cards of your listing. The front side could be the custom looking drawing and the back a smaller full color shot. It is different and stands out as such.

Some of the affects are really wonderful for your pet or taking a photo of a clients pet. This program makes for an interesting way of changing any photo into something special. So give it a try and let your imagination show you some of the creative ways of using this great little resource. And have fun with it. I think you see some great ways to enjoy this.

Video clip from the Charles Bukowski documentary, “Born into This”

They say youth is wasted on the young. Well, sometimes love is wasted on the young as well.

The video below is a clip from the Charles Bukowski documentary, "Born into This", directed by John Dullaghan.

At around 1:17 Pamela "Cupcakes" Wood, author of the memoir "Charles Bukowski's Scarlet" remembers the mutually misunderstood nature of her relationship with Bukowski.

Pam tells me:  "The complete original sentence in the version entered at Sundance Film Festival was: "I did love him - as much as I could love any man at that time. But I considered him more of a friend..." Not sure why the film editors cut the first part... "

"I did love him - as much as I could love any man at that time".....   I could say the same of my own youthful relationships as well.  I think it is universal.

Charles Bukowski's Scarlet is available from Sun Dog Press and from Amazon.

Countdown to Eagle Rock Music Festival: October 2, 2010

Eagle Rock Music Festival, October 2, 2010 4:00 - 11:00PM

This year, Free the Robots will appear on Low End Theory Stage (located near The Coffee Table Bistro)

"Chris Alfaro is Free the Robots. The genre-defying artist pulls together heavy doses of traditional jazz, psych, electronic and hip-hop, with progressive melodies and devastating drums into a rich pot of sound. His techniques create harmony between genres with the blending of obscure samples with analog and digital compositions."

Northeast Los Angeles is  home to some truly excellent local bloggers.

Earlier this week, The Eastsider published a story on the final completion of a decade long construction project on Toland Way.

And  waltarrrrr of 90042 featured the home of my associate and good friend as part of  his "The Front Yards of 90042″ project.
