Delete Pending Comments from WordPress Blog

Did you ever create a new WordPress blog, and before you got around to (<g>) activating a comment captcha plugin and/or a word filter plugin you got bombarded with spam comments?

If you have used WordPress's delete all function, you know that "all" means only "all the comments listed on that screen view".  WordPress displays 20 comments per screen view; so if you have a few hundred spam comments, you are going to be repeatedly clicking "delete all" for a good 40 minutes or so.

There is an easier way.  It involves deleting the comments through your hosting account control panel.

Tan Kian Ann from Singapore describes how to do it here along with all the necessary screen shots.  You do need to feel comfortable messing around with your database ... but it is not that difficult!

I cleaned up the spam comments on a number of my blogs yesterday, and installed the anti-spam plugins.  This morning all is quiet and serene.

Hi Cheryl-

Do you find your WP.Mu accounts get slammed? I'm getting about 1/hr spam email. It's as if Akismet isn't working... Maybe it's not. Was wondering if that was a Mu problem before I make a pest of myself.

I was getting  S.L.A.M.M.E.D...!!!!

But not since I installed the comment captcha plugin  and activated it across all the existing Mu blogs...  The big Mama Mu Admin can activate in all baby blogs using Plugin Commander..   (Somebody should nicely suggest it for the puppyblogs)

Knocking on wood.....    knock knock knock
