Google Wave: How to create a new wave and make it public

Google Wave:  How to create a new wave and make it public.

Creating a new wave and making it public is easy, but not exactly intuitive at least for the first few days.

To start a new wave, click "New Wave".

A message box will appear in the right Panel.  Type the name for your new wave in the message box.  (You can also type in some content, but so far, for no particular reason, I have been leaving the title as its own message box).  Click Done.

In order to make the wave public, you will need to add either easypublic@appspot.com or public@a.gwave.com to your contacts.

So, first look down to the lower portion of the left panel, and click the + button beside Manage Contacts.

Add easypublic@appspot.com, click submit.  The advantage with easypublic seems to be that it will remain in your contact list. public@a.gwave seems to drift in and out  (one of those early beta bugs).

Now look back at your new wave in the right panel.  Click the + button to add participants.  Click on easypublic@appspot.com; and that's it, your wave is now public and can be viewed by anyone, anywhere with a google wave account.

Hi Cheryl.  Since Wave is in Beta/Preview, you need to get your hands on a invitation first.  Google has not yet gifted me with a waveful of new invites to hand out.  Worse case you can buy one on eBay (I suppose Google doesn't condone buying and selling the invites, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. I bought mine.)  :-)

Cheryl

I enjoyed the info. One more thing to learn but this one looks like it is a winner.

Wow - that is cool!  So public is only public with adding that public email - I added it and tried it.  I am still tryingt o figure out how to find my wave in a search, but hey, I will just read another of your helpful posts and have it all down soon!

Courtney, Yes, the only people that see a wave in their inbox are the people you actually add to the wave.  Unless you make the wave "public" for the whole world.  You can also use wave to make notes for yourself only -- just don't add anyone to the wave.

A wave will show up in the center panel inbox if you a. started it, b. someone else added you to that wave, or c. it is a public wave that you joined.

Cheryl - This is a great tip that isn't readily explained by Google in their Google Wave materials.
