WordPress Thesis Theme: A Little Sidebar Styling

Want to style the sidebar of your WordPress Thesis Theme and learn a little CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) in the process?

Copy this little snippet of CSS code and paste it into  the custom.css file of your Thesis themes installation (wp-content/themes/thesis_16/custom/custom.css)

.custom li.widget ul li{
background:#F0F0F0;
border: 0.1em solid #C7C7C7;
-moz-border-radius:4px;
padding:0.5em;
font-weight: bold;
margin:0.5em;
}

.sidebar h3 {font-weight: bold;}

This little snippet will make the sidebar links in the Thesis Theme look like this:

OK.  Suppose you wanted the links to have a different background color... Change the color hex code in this line  background:#F0F0F0;

For example, change that line to read background:#FF00FF;

That will give the sidebar links a hot pink background, like this

Lime green, anyone?  Change that line to read:  background:#ADFF2F;

Ray,

I originally bought the Thesis developer license over a year ago.  Originally didn't like it and didn't use it.  I just recently reconsidered and moved several of our single property sites to Thesis.

(Example:  Here's a web site for a property we sold last year, I changed it to Thesis and I've been playing to see how close I can get it to look to its original design).

Customizing does require a little knowledge of HTML and CSS, but that is true of customizing any theme.  And once you get used to working with the custom_functions.php and custom.css files, it all begins to make sense.

That said, you might also want to check out Woo Themes  I particularly like their free theme named "Mainstream".  :-)

Cheryl,

I like the site. I am sure you can put more pics via slide show. I have thesis too. The only thing is I am not interested in learning all the CSS HTML stuff. I bought it last year as well.

Eva,  If you have time, read back thru some of my old posts on WordPress ... the screen view has changed, but the basic steps still apply.... and read through posts in the WordPress Group

As I said, you might also want to check out some of the free themes at Woo Themes
