Photoshop Elements: Drawing on Photos

ARDELL asked about this a few days ago and got some excellent responses in the comments.

Although, my favorite tool for Drawing on Photos is Snag-It (yes, it does more than screen captures), here is how to do it in Photoshop Elements 5:

Open your image.

Click on the Elliptical Marquee tool.  If the Ellipitcal tool isn't visible, right click on the Rectangular Marquee, and you'll see it in the "fly-out" list.

Click and drag to draw a circle (or oval) somewhere on the image.  Not quite the right place?  Hit Escape and do it again.

Hit Select -> Modify -> Border

In the Border Selection dialogue box, type in a pixel width for the circle.  I usually use 2 or 3.  Click OK.

Now Hit Edit -> Fill Selection

The Fill Layer dialogue box will pop up and allow you to select a color for your circle.  Click color.

In the Color Picker, move the sliders up and down, then click in the large, left side box to select a color.  Be sure your selected color shows in the top half of the smaller, right side box, then click OK.

To remove the "marching ants" selection border, hit Select -> Deselect

Done!

That is really a great little tutorial you have created. Thanks for taking the time to walk us through it. I need to go play with that to get good at it! I love Snag it!

Cheryl - Excellent information!  Easy to do once you know how - but without guidance could take hours of searching.  Hope to see more like these.  Am flagging this for a featured post - hope it works!

Once again you have done a wonderful job explaining how to use a software package.  Were you an instructor in your past life?

Linda:  Never an instructor on a professional level.  Had fantasies of being a professor when I was a little girl.  Does it count that I've shown a few assistants and staff members how to figure stuff out?  <s>

Bob:  I was thinking of doing a series on the heretical idea of using SnagIt as a complete photo editing solution.  Am I nuts?  Will I face an Inquisition?
