One more simple concept to be aware of as we prepare to jump into Layer Masks with Bryce: Photography 101: Masks Pt 1 ...
Have you played around with moving object from one image to another ... like this:
Photoshop Elements 5: Creating A Llosa Collage
Photoshop: Merging Windows and View
Photoshop Elements: Beyond The Lasso
Did you notice that as you dragged objects from one image to another, each object became a LAYER? This happens automatically without any intervention from the user.
Like this:

Close up of the Layer Palette:

And each Layer can to be edited separately, turned on and off, or stacked in a different order.
As you work in Layers, the file name extension will show as .PSD, photoshop's native file format. When you are satisfied with the final result, you would "Flatten" the image, then save it in JPEG format for use on the internet.

Here is Saturday morning's post on using layers in Photoshop Elements: Making Do With Elements: Masks & Mixers

Cheryl, the night is late and my eyes are poor so I've bookmarked you for a later time to see if there is anything further I can pick up. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! You reduced the incredible fear I had of photoshop by half at least!

This is fun stuff. Been using photoshop professionally since version 1. Don't remember if we've commented that to you or not. We like it when we see this kind of help for others. The program is much easier now than what it used to be, especially since version 3, which was when layers was first introduced.
Here's an image we did recently. We've shown it to someone in a comment once before, but don't remember who. If it was you, please excuse. The lake was choppy when we took the shot. The logo for the property on it's custom web site (see "Property Details" menu) had a mirror reflection to it. We wanted to make the lake look like it does when its still.
To do it, we had to isolate the water, the sky and the mountains. We then fixed the water, then mirrored the mountains to reflect off of it.
Hope you and those who see this enjoy. If anyone wants to know exactly how it was done, we're happy to share the psd file.
Everyone - Thank you!
Gary - It was Bryce's first post on masks Photography 101: Masks Pt 1 and it is an excellent image. It really does invite you to walk down towards the lake.
JaneAnne - Do look at all the tutorial posts in Photography Group and Photoshop Elements Group for your staff meeting. I've said before: I like to think the tutorials created here by AR members are as good as any out there on the web. Maybe better. <s>
Cheryl,
This is a great post. It's easy to follow and very detailed. Thanks for the help and keep the posts coming!
I've been using Paint Shop Pro for many years and found it to be very similar with a few different whistles and bells of course. I tend to find many post on Photoshop but nothing on Paint Shop. Does anyone have any on my program? Keep up the great tutorials. I read them all the time.
Thanks, Bob and Lisa Hammerstein
Thanks for the tutorial Cheryl , i hope you and Bob are doing good. Shoot me an email sometime :)
