Random thoughts on art, technology, stuff, and occasionally Real Estate: Let There Be Peas On Earth

Let There Be Peas On Earth

Yesterday I made this little Peas & Ribbons icon to use on Twitter.  I figured I'd upload it to the sidebar here on AR as well.

The pink ribbon in support of breast cancer awareness is widely recognized.  The blue ribbon in support of prostate cancer awareness seems to be less well known.

And the peas?  Breast cancer patient, Susan Reynolds, told of using a bag of frozen bags in place of an ice pack, and the peas quickly became a symbol of comfort and healing, and coping in a lighthearted way.

It was important to me to include the blue ribbon.

It is now just about a year since my business partner, Bob, received a diagnois of prostate cancer, and I can say with certanty that I now know a hell of a lot more about prostate cancer than I did a year ago at this time.

In the past year, Bob has received hormone therapyexternal radiation and permanent brachytherapy  Here's an article about Bob's Doctor, Dr. Kenneth Lam, that reads like a primer on prostate cancer treatment.

Also note the PSA at the top loop of the blue ribbon. PSA stands for "prostate-specific antigen" the key indicator in the prostate cancer screening blood test.

Here's a little more about blue ribbons....

Great job, Cheryl. I have peas on twitter too. I just got my laptop back so maybe I can sprinkle peas elsewhere now.

My dad had prostate cancer last year.  He had a Radical prostatectomy, at his 6 week check up - they informed him that his PSA was still high and he would need the hormone therapy - then he found out he had lung cancer.  It was such a dark time.  He was so gravely ill for months.  Miraculously he made is full recovery.  I'm so glad he is hear and healthy, I never take him for granted.

Cheryl - I'd love to put peas on my side bar here.  Can you tell me where to get the code?  Thanks.

Maureen - Glad your dad has recovered.  May it last for many years!

Cheryl, A good friend is battling with it right now, I am always waiting to hear how he is doing.  It's been several years of an up and down rollar coaster ride and I wish I could do more. Thank you for the info--and the story, I didn't know there was a blue ribbon for it either.

Cheryl.. I also lost my Dad to prostate cancer.. so I think the blue ribbon is terrific.. I will say they are making great strides and if Dad had been diagnosed today he would have had a better chance of beating it..

Cheryl, thanks so much for the links and great information about cancer.

It seems to hit many families and friends of people we know - and most of whom we only hear about after it affects us. Let's increase the volume a little more and talk about cancer prevention, detection, treatment and finding a cure. I know you'll be active in the conversation.

Thanks for being part of my twitterverse.
