Random thoughts on art, technology, stuff, and occasionally Real Estate: How Do You Spell Relief?

How Do You Spell Relief?

Try   "N A R R O W"  (the browser window, that is).

While I think all the creative efforts going into Active Rain blog customization are great, in my information-overloaded-world, filled with too-much-sound, too-much-stuff, too-much-to-do, and too-much-in-general, I was finding all the different brightly colored AR blog backgrounds were just simply adding to that feeling of way-too-much.

Simple solution?

Just move your cursor over to the edge of your browser's window and drag it inward, making the window narrower.  As the window narrows, the blog background is no longer visible.

Ah, that's better.  Feels like turning down the sound on a TV that is too loud.

Sorry, Jeff, this isn't meant to pick on you, but here's an illustration:

Interesting....I hadn't really thought about it before but sometimes I do find myself squinting at some blogs.  I wonder if that is why?  I will have to try this the next time I finding myself squinting!  Thanks

Ah Cheryl, you are the voice of reason. I find the recent addition of backgrounds highly distracting, and I am also distracted by dancing avatars on the side bar. I will definitely be trying your suggestion.

I'm with you. I like the more simplified, uncluttered look...

Hey Cheryl - I love looking at all the new blog skins but I'll admit some of them make my head hurt.  Have you seen the ones that play music now?  A few people have been putting audio files in their sidebar so that when you click on their blog you hear a song (over and over again).  I really don't like it.

Cheryl,

A voice of reason.  Thank you.

I prefer the "AR Classic" skin, and expect to retain it for some time to come.

Thanks for the suggestion Cheryl. I'm new to Active Rain and just starting to figure things out.

If you're ever looking for a home inspector let me know. We've been around for almost 15 years and do over 8,000 inspections a year.

Cheryl, I'm glad to know it isn't just me.  Some of the custom work makes me dizzy.  Some are easy to read but some truly make it harder.  I did change mine a bit but I wouldn't mind at all if we all went back to the basics.

Ok I don't get it, doesn't seem to work.  I see the diagram but when I try it it doesn't narrow?  Any thoughts?

I enjoy looking at the different backgrounds but some can use your method. Thanks for the heads up.

Hi Cheryl...OK I'll go back and take another "objective" look at mine.  Hope I haven't made anyone dizzy or giwen them visual overload.

I got so excited I actually wrote a post listing a number of people that had customized.

Anyway, I love AR no matter what we've done to it!
