Random thoughts on art, technology, stuff, and occasionally Real Estate: A Bit More On New New Localism

A Bit More On New New Localism

Some people wrote short descriptions for their sponsored communities, some wrote long, some inserted multiple images .... no matter, the description box needed to be a uniform size .....

So if you added a bunch of images, or wrote a lengthy  description, your community description will display with a little "read more" plus sign in the upper right hand corner. like this:

Of course, I didn't notice that little plus sign at first, and just spent about 30 minutes trying to fix a description that wasn't broken.  :-)

Very interesting Cheryl.  I have to go back and add my pictures.  Do you think the public will understand that little X to ready more???

Hmm I did not think of adding images to the info .. I guess in a few weeks I might go back freshen it up a bit

Cheryl:  Thanks for the tip.  This is such a confusing thing for me to learn, and every little bit of information and education helps.  Take care...

Cheryl, how do you add the pictures in the description?

Cheryl, Too funny.  I did something similar the other night.  Before I realized I was trying to fix something that didn't need fixed.

I've been working on my sponsored community description and bookmarked your post for adding pictures yesterday. I'm going to try to avoid the "X" because, like Joan said, it may be confusing. Thanks for the update.

Barbara and Eric, re images .. Here's the quick and easy technique I came up with the other day:  http://activerain.com/blogsview/645149/Localism-Sponsored-Community-Descriptions

Joan ... "Do you think the public will understand that little X"  I know I didn't notice it right away, and I do this stuff every day  :-)   Maybe someone should suggest to Rich or Brad or Matt to add the words "Read more..."

The current 'read more' symbol is not at all intuitive, the color scheme makes is tough to decipher, and its placement is where you would expect to find the X to close a window on a PC. AR needs to make this a lot more obvious, and the best way would be with a 'read more' link at the end of the truncation.

Going to take a look at your images post now. I didn't realize we could add them to descriptions.

So, there is a little X at the top corner.  We are all on this site a lot and didn't know or understand what the little X is for - gee, the public shouldn't have to spend time figuring this out since they won't know to spend the time.  Instead of an X how about the word, MORE?  Too simple?  Won't look designed? Oh well.

I'm sure you're not the only one who didn't see the "expand" button!

Have a great week!

Thanks for the post!

I am a little annoyed with localism too. I now am not even listed as a neighbor anymore. Got no clue why.

Cheryl, The adds of the consumer clicking on that little "plus sign" are slim to none. I guess I'll just write real short descriptions.

Wow, well I think it's going to be hard for the public to figure that out, too.  Haven't decided if I'll sponser or not...  Love to hear your opinion of it, Cheryl.  Thanks!

Bryant .... My thought: adjust the description so the short form looks OK .... but leave all the other images/paragraphs so if someone just happens to click on the little + sign, it will be like finding an "easter egg".   :-)

I think I kinda sorta accomplished that here:  http://localism.com/ca/highland_park/northeast_los_angeles
