I've taken Moon Shots before, but always with a monster lens on a dSLR, on a tripod.
This shot was hand-held (well, I propped the side of the camera against the post of my patio cover) and it was taken with a little compact superzoom, the Panasonic DMC-FZ18. With an 28mm to 480mm zoom lens, that camera fits the bill nicely as a "do-everything" camera. (It is small, but it doesn't fit in a pocket, though.)
I just wanted to say, I was very surprised and pleased with the image quality.

Camera mode: IA (Intelligent Auto) No manual settings involved.
The only post processing:
Cropped
Bumped up contrast just a couple ticks
Sharpened

I'm pretty impressed with the quality as well. It is nice to see homes with night shots if they have landscaped lights and/or accent lights and not many agents do that for their listings, especially their luxury listings. It is a way to make yourself stand out from your competitors...
Its amazing how far technology has come. I wonder what is in the works for us technologically.
I walked my grandson out to wait for the bus and the moon this morning was just hanging there in the sky. Wish I had my camera b/c I know I could have gotten a shot of Lane 'touching' or holding it up. For some reason the scene in my mind made me think of Carolyn, then you post this, what a giggle. be good cw
I am very impressed with this photo. I tried just the other night to get a moon shot with my Canon Powershot S3 (which is a decent p&S camera) but I got nada! You are the best Cheryl. Now that I have buttered you up, can I ask PS Elements question? <g> I tried the handy dandy little trick of "duplicating" one picture on top of another and the playing with the opacity... very cool ... but how do you soften or blur the edges? You can still see "lines" ... Thanks Cheryl, you really are the best.
Sometimes a couple light strokes with the Smudge Finger (Tool) will do the trick. It's in the fly-out menu under the blur tool.
Or before you drag the first image image into the second image, try feathering the edges of the first image... Select - Feather (try a radius of 3 or 4 pixels, if that's not enough, try more).
THANK YOU!
Cheryl, Wow, the moon you captured is gorgeous. I can't edit pictures like you but you did very little to this and it's just lovely!
Beautiful picture. We forget to stop and enjoy the world around us!
Imagine a few years ago before digital photograph and the instant feed back we get now sure speeds up the learning curve. Nice Photo.
Cheryl, your camera must have a powerful flash to light the moon up that much.
;>)
Cheryl - That's a pretty amazing picture. By the way I like the "picture" on your profile page. That little cartoon character looks very much like you :-)
THis photo looks like it was cut out of a magazine. Very nice!
great capture
Cheryl - great handheld shot. Am assuming you were at 480mm. Great long handheld exposure with little jitter. I was taking a bet with myself as to whether it was a lunar moon or.... I won the bet, but then again, I also lost the bet.

Hehehehehe
Cheryl, the photo is amazing and very good quality. Nice job, thanks for sharing.
Hi Cheryl...You make me feel so good. The next time I see a full moon I am grabbing my Panasonic DMC-FZ18 and will try to see what kind of results I can get.
I love that camera. It rides around in the car with me all the time.
I wouldn't be surprised if I read one of your posts talking about this camera and that was the inspiration for my purchase. Someone on AR is responsible and I'm happy for that.
